Become a Volunteer

Driven by volunteers, Brightside’s mission is to keep Louisville clean and green. With opportunities ranging from self-guided litter cleanups, special events, and reoccurring volunteer roles, Brightside has something for everyone who is interested in keeping Louisville beautiful and fostering civic pride!

Anti-Litter:

Cleanups: Volunteers lead the fight against Litter by cleaning up on their own with Brightside provided materials and trash collection from our partners at Metro Solid Waste. Litter Cleanups can be completed any time, any where in addition to our two Community-Wide Cleanups held in the spring and fall.

Adopt-A-Mile: Your group can choose a mile of City owned roadway and volunteer to clean it four times a year. Brightside will provide your group with all of the supplies necessary to cleanup as well as post a sign letting passersby about your commitment to keeping Louisville clean and green.

Adopt-A-Can: If you’ve noticed a TARC stop in your area looking like it needs a little attention volunteer to Adopt-A-Can! Metro Solid Waste will provide trash cans for TARC stops and your organization will commit to emptying the can once a week.

Special Events:

Join Brightside at one of our special events and give us a hand with jobs like registration, greeter, pre-event work, and more. Special events throughout the year include Green Tie Bash, the Brightside/Coca Cola Volleyball Classic, Community-Wide Volunteer Kick-Off, our semi-annual compost sales, and more!

Reoccurring Volunteer Opportunities:

Ambassadors: Volunteers in this special group make a commitment to help spread the Brightside message. Fully trained on Brightside, this group serves by helping educate the community on Brightside’s programs and mission. Opportunities for these volunteers involve speaking at events, representing Brightside at neighborhood fairs, and assisting t our special events. This group meets quarterly.

Mayor’s Anti-Litter Task Force: Addressing litter concerns in the Louisville community is the primary function of the Task Force. Including both corporate and neighborhood leaders, the group meets once a month to plan initiatives to promote Brightside’s anti-litter message.
